Jahzeel

Jahzeel — also spelled Jahziel — is the firstborn son of Naphtali, listed in the family lines that go down to Egypt and in the wilderness clan census, with the spelling shifting in the Chronicler's parallel.

Son of Naphtali

Genesis lists him among Jacob's grandsons descending into Egypt: "And the sons of Naphtali: Jahzeel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shillem" (Gen 46:24).

The Numbers census carries his line as a clan: "The sons of Naphtali after their families: of Jahzeel, the family of the Jahzeelites; of Guni, the family of the Gunites" (Num 26:48). The clan name Jahzeelites is built from his.

The Chronicler's parallel keeps the same position with a variant spelling: "The sons of Naphtali: Jahziel, and Guni, and Jezer, and Shallum, the sons of Bilhah" (1Ch 7:13). Jahziel here corresponds to Jahzeel in the Genesis and Numbers lists.
