Japhlet

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Japhlet appears in the Asherite genealogy of Chronicles as a grandson of Beriah and the head of a small line of three named sons.

In the House of Asher

The Chronicler traces the descendants of Asher through Beriah and his son Heber: "And the sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel, who was the father of Birzaith" (1Ch 7:31). Heber's children are then named, with Japhlet at their head: "And Heber begot Japhlet, and Shomer, and Hotham, and Shua their sister" (1Ch 7:32). Japhlet's own household closes the immediate listing: "And the sons of Japhlet: Pasach, and Bimhal, and Ashvath. These are the sons of Japhlet" (1Ch 7:33). The genealogy preserves three generations of the line — Beriah, Heber, Japhlet — and the three sons through whom the family continues, with no further narrative about any of them.
