Jathniel
Jathniel is named once, as the fourth son of Meshelemiah in the rota of Korahite doorkeepers organized by David. His position in the family is given precisely; the duties he shares with his brothers belong to the temple gates.
Fourth Son of Meshelemiah
The chapter assigning the courses of doorkeepers opens with the Korahite line: Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Ebiasaph. His sons are then listed in order of birth: "And Meshelemiah had sons: Zechariah the firstborn, Jediael the second, Zebadiah the third, Jathniel the fourth" (1Ch 26:2). Three more sons follow in the next verse, completing a household of seven brothers attached to the gate-keeping service. Jathniel's identity in scripture rests on this single placement — the fourth-born of a Korahite doorkeeper, named in the catalogue that organizes the temple's perimeter watch.
