Jeaterai

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Jeaterai — rendered Jeatherai in UPDV — closes a Levitical line traced from Gershom, the elder son of Levi. He is the last name in a seven-generation chain that the Chronicler preserves to fix the Gershomite descent.

Descendant of Gershom

The Levitical genealogy moves through Gershom's line in a tight catena of fathers and sons: "Of Gershom: Libni his son, Jahath his son, Zimmah his son, Joah his son, Iddo his son, Zerah his son, Jeatherai his son" (1Ch 6:20-21). Jeatherai stands at the end of the sequence, the seventh generation reckoned from Gershom. The verse records nothing of his life or service; his place is preserved as the terminus of this branch, anchoring the descent to a named ancestor before the Chronicler turns to Kohath's line.
