Jehdeiah
Two unrelated men in 1 Chronicles bear the name Jehdeiah: a Levite of the Amramite line listed in the supplementary roll of Levitical heads, and a Meronothite who served David as overseer of the royal donkeys.
A Son of Shubael
In the supplement to the priestly courses, the Chronicler closes the lots with a roll of the remaining Levitical heads: "And of the rest of the sons of Levi: of the sons of Amram, Shubael; of the sons of Shubael, Jehdeiah" (1 Chr 24:20). Jehdeiah is fixed in the Amramite branch of Levi as the son of Shubael; the surrounding entries name Rehabiah's line and the Izharites alongside.
Overseer of the Royal Donkeys
In David's roster of overseers — the men set "over the rulers of the substance which was king David's" (1 Chr 27:31) — Jehdeiah holds a specific portfolio. Among the keepers of camels, donkeys, and flocks, the Chronicler writes: "and over the camels was Obil the Ishmaelite: and over the donkeys was Jehdeiah the Meronothite: and over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagrite" (1 Chr 27:30). His town, Meronoth, places him outside the Ishmaelite and Hagrite tribal labels of his fellow overseers; his charge is the king's donkeys.
