Jehezekel
Jehezekel — written Jehezkel in the UPDV — is the head of the twentieth priestly division in the rotation David organizes for service at the sanctuary. His name appears once, embedded in the list of twenty-four priestly courses drawn by lot from the descendants of Aaron through Eleazar and Ithamar.
The twentieth priestly course
In the priestly rotation set out in 1 Chronicles 24, the lot determines the order of service for each course. The verse listing courses nineteen and twenty reads: "the nineteenth to Pethahiah, the twentieth to Jehezkel," (1Ch 24:16). Jehezkel's house is fixed in the cycle between Pethahiah's and Jachin's, each course taking its appointed turn at the worship of Yahweh. The single line is the whole record of him — a name set in the order, no narrative beyond his place in the course-list.
