Jehieli

Jehieli appears in the Chronicler's roster of Levitical treasure-keepers, named as a Gershonite head whose own sons stood over the storehouses of the house of Yahweh.

Gershonite Head and Father of the Treasurers

The roster opens with Ahijah's general charge: "And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things" (1 Chr 26:20). The next entry traces the Gershonite line down to Jehieli: "The sons of Ladan, the sons of the Gershonites belonging to Ladan, the heads of the fathers' [houses] belonging to Ladan the Gershonite: Jehieli" (1 Chr 26:21). UPDV spells the father "Ladan."

The notice continues with Jehieli's own sons and their post: "The sons of Jehieli: Zetham, and Joel his brother, over the treasures of the house of Yahweh" (1 Chr 26:22). Jehieli is the link between the Gershonite Ladan and the brothers Zetham and Joel who held the treasury charge.
