Jehoadah

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Jehoadah — written Jehoaddah in the UPDV — is a Benjaminite descendant of Saul through Jonathan, named once in the long genealogy of Saul's house in 1 Chronicles 8. The Ahaz here is not the king of Judah but a later descendant of Mephibosheth in the Saulide line; Jehoaddah's place is purely genealogical.

A link in the Saulide line

The Chronicler traces Saul's house generation by generation, well past the kingdom's loss to David, and the chain reaches: "And Ahaz begot Jehoaddah; and Jehoaddah begot Alemeth, and Azmaveth, and Zimri; and Zimri begot Moza" (1Ch 8:36). Jehoaddah stands as son to Ahaz and father to three sons, the middle generation in a four-deep stretch of the Benjaminite roster. The verse fixes him in the post-monarchic continuation of Saul's family — a name that survives because the line itself was preserved in the records of Benjamin. The single mention is the whole record of him.
