Jehoaddan

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Jehoaddan is the queen mother of Amaziah king of Judah, named in the regnal formula that opens his reign. She is identified as a woman of Jerusalem, with no further family detail recorded.

Mother of Amaziah

The Chronicler gives her name in its standard form: "Amaziah was twenty and five years old when he began to reign; and he reigned twenty and nine years in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Jehoaddan, of Jerusalem" (2Ch 25:1). The parallel notice in Kings carries the same regnal data with a variant spelling of her name — "his mother's name was Jehoaddin of Jerusalem" (2Ki 14:2). The two notices together fix her place: Jerusalemite by origin, mother of a king who reigned twenty-nine years.
