Jekabzeel

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Jekabzeel is a settlement in the southern hill country of Judah, named once in the post-exilic resettlement record.

A Village of Judah

The list of places resettled by "the sons of Judah" after the return groups Jekabzeel with other towns of the southern Judean countryside: "And as for the villages, with their fields, some of the sons of Judah dwelt in Kiriath-arba and its towns, and in Dibon and its towns, and in Jekabzeel and its villages" (Neh 11:25). The phrase "and its villages" places Jekabzeel at the head of a small cluster — a parent settlement with dependent hamlets attached to it — alongside the older Judahite centers of Kiriath-arba (Hebron) and Dibon.
