Jephunneh
The name Jephunneh belongs to two men in the Old Testament: a Judahite whose son Caleb the spy carries the patronymic across the wilderness narrative, and a separate Asherite listed only in Chronicles.
Father of Caleb
Jephunneh is named first in the roster of tribal spies sent to Canaan: "Of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh" (Nu 13:6). He himself does not act in the story, but his name attaches to Caleb in nearly every later reference to the spies, the Kenizzite inheritance, and the conquest of Hebron — preserving him as the patronymic anchor for Caleb of Judah.
An Asherite
A second man of the name appears in the genealogy of Asher, where he is listed simply as one of three brothers: "And the sons of Jether: Jephunneh, and Pispa, and Ara" (1Ch 7:38). He is distinct from the Judahite Jephunneh and is given no further detail.
