Jered
Jered appears once in the Judahite genealogy of 1 Chronicles, named with two brothers as the founding ancestor of a town in Judah.
Father of Gedor
The verse names him in a triad with Heber and Jekuthiel and assigns each man a settlement: "And his Jewish wife bore Jered the father of Gedor, and Heber the father of Soco, and Jekuthiel the father of Zanoah. And these are the sons of Bithiah the daughter of Pharaoh, whom Mered took" (1Ch 4:18). Jered is the eldest of the three named here, the one through whom Gedor traces its ancestry. The "Jewish wife" of Mered is set apart from Bithiah the Egyptian princess named in the same verse, marking Jered as Israelite-line offspring within Mered's mixed household.
