Jesher

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Jesher is named once in scripture as one of the sons of Caleb the son of Hezron, born to him by his wife Azubah. He appears in the Judahite genealogy of Chronicles, set among the descendants who carry Caleb's line forward before the death of Azubah and Caleb's later marriage to Ephrath.

Among the Sons of Caleb

The genealogy in 1 Chronicles 2 introduces Caleb's first family and lists three brothers together: "And Caleb the son of Hezron begot [children] of Azubah [his] wife, and of Jerioth; and these were her sons: Jesher, and Shobab, and Ardon" (1Ch 2:18). The notice locates Jesher within the early branch of the Calebite line — a branch whose record closes immediately after his name, as the next verse turns to Azubah's death and the birth of Hur to a later wife (1Ch 2:19).
