Jimnah, also spelled Imnah in the UPDV, is a son of Asher and the head of the Imnite clan. He appears in two roster passages — the migration of Jacob's family into Egypt and the wilderness census taken on the plains of Moab.

Son of Asher

In the genealogy of those who came into Egypt with Jacob, Imnah is named first among Asher's sons: "And the sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishvah, and Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah; and the sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel" (Gen 46:17).

The Imnite Clan

A generation later, the wilderness census on the plains of Moab counts Imnah's descendants as a tribal sub-unit within Asher: "The sons of Asher after their families: of Imnah, the family of the Imnites; of Ishvi, the family of the Ishvites; of Beriah, the family of the Beriites" (Num 26:44). The personal name has become a clan designation — the Imnites are reckoned among the families of Asher in the muster.
