Joanan
Joanan is a name attested at a single point in the UPDV: an ancestor of Jesus listed in Luke's genealogy.
An Ancestor of Jesus
The name surfaces in the long line that traces the descent of Jesus backward through David and on to Adam. Within that chain Luke places Joanan between Rhesa and Judah's line through Zerubbabel and Shealtiel: "the [son] of Joanan, the [son] of Rhesa, the [son] of Zerubbabel, the [son] of Shealtiel, the [son] of Neri" (Lu 3:27).
Nothing else is recorded of him. He is a single link, named only to anchor the post-exilic generations of the genealogy on the way back through Zerubbabel toward David.
