Joed

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Joed is a Benjamite preserved in a single ancestral list of those who settled at Jerusalem after the return from exile.

A Benjamite Ancestor

The name appears among the ancestors of Sallu, one of the chiefs of Benjamin who took up residence in the holy city. The genealogy reads: "And these are the sons of Benjamin: Sallu the son of Meshullam, the son of Joed, the son of Pedaiah, the son of Kolaiah, the son of Maaseiah, the son of Ithiel, the son of Jeshaiah" (Ne 11:7).

Joed stands two generations above Sallu in this line. The text records nothing more of his life or deeds; he is named only to fix Sallu's lineage within the tribe of Benjamin.
