Joezer

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Joezer is one of the Korahite warriors who joined David at Ziklag while David was still a fugitive from Saul.

A Korahite at Ziklag

The Ziklag roster opens by identifying the assembled men: "Now these are those who came to David to Ziklag, while he yet kept himself close because of Saul the son of Kish; and they were among the mighty men, his helpers in war" (1Ch 12:1). They were ambidextrous slingers and archers from Saul's own tribe of Benjamin (1Ch 12:2).

Joezer's name appears among a clustered group of Korahites: "Elkanah, and Isshiah, and Azarel, and Joezer, and Jashobeam, the Korahites" (1Ch 12:6). The list groups him with four others under that one tribal designation, then closes with the sons of Jeroham of Gedor in the next verse (1Ch 12:7).

Nothing further is said of Joezer's deeds. He is preserved as one of the early defectors from Saul's house who threw their skill in war behind David before David's reign was established.
