Joha

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Two men named Joha appear in the Chronicler's lists. The first is a Benjaminite genealogical figure; the second is a brother of one of David's mighty men.

A Son of Beriah in Benjamin

In the genealogy of Benjamin, Joha is named among the sons of Beriah: "and Michael, and Ishpah, and Joha, the sons of Beriah" (1 Chr 8:16). His place is in the family tree, alongside his brothers, with no further narrative attached.

Brother of Jediael, One of David's Mighty Men

In the roster of David's warriors, a different Joha is named in apposition to one of the named heroes: "Jediael the son of Shimri, and Joha his brother, the Tizite" (1 Chr 11:45). The two are paired as brothers and assigned the same gentilic — the Tizites — entering David's company together.
