Joiakim

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Joiakim is a high priest in the post-exilic restoration, son of Jeshua and grandson of Jozadak, named in the priestly succession recorded by Nehemiah.

In the High-Priestly Succession

Joiakim stands in the line of high priests after the return: "And Jeshua begot Joiakim, and Joiakim begot Eliashib, and Eliashib begot Joiada," (Ne 12:10).

Heads of the Priestly Houses in His Days

The heads of the priestly fathers' houses are catalogued by his time: "And in the days of Joiakim were priests, heads of fathers' [houses]: of Seraiah, Meraiah; of Jeremiah, Hananiah;" (Ne 12:12). The summary of the register places him alongside Nehemiah and Ezra: "These were in the days of Joiakim the son of Jeshua, the son of Jozadak, and in the days of Nehemiah the governor, and of Ezra the priest the scribe" (Ne 12:26).
