Jorim

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Jorim appears once in the text, named in Luke's genealogy of Jesus among the long roll of fathers and sons that traces the line backward from Joseph to Adam.

An Ancestor in Luke's Genealogy

The genealogy proceeds in a chained [son] of formula, naming each link without comment. Jorim falls between Eliezer and Matthat: "the [son] of Jesus, the [son] of Eliezer, the [son] of Jorim, the [son] of Matthat, the [son] of Levi" (Lu 3:29). The bracketed [son] reflects a UPDV editorial supplement where the underlying Greek leaves the relation implicit. No further notice attaches to Jorim — he is a name in the chain, holding a place between the generations.
