Joshaviah

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Joshaviah appears once in the text, named with his brother Jeribai near the close of the Chronicler's list of David's mighty men.

A Son of Elnaam

The list opens at v. 26: "Also the mighty men of the armies: Asahel the brother of Joab, Elhanan the son of Dodo of Beth-lehem" (1Ch 11:26). Two-word entries follow — name and gentilic, name and patronymic — until the roll reaches Elnaam's house: "Eliel the Mahavite, and Jeribai, and Joshaviah, the sons of Elnaam, and Ithmah the Moabite," (1Ch 11:46). Joshaviah is paired with Jeribai as Elnaam's sons; the verse supplies no further detail beyond the brotherhood and the placement in David's warriors.
