Josibiah

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Josibiah — spelled Joshibiah in UPDV — appears once in the text, named in a Simeonite patronymic chain as the father of Jehu.

A Simeonite Forefather

The Simeonite roll of chiefs is anchored to the tribe's habitation: "and all their villages that were round about the same cities, to Baal. These were their habitations, and they have their genealogy" (1Ch 4:33). Names follow, several of them paired with deeper patronymic chains. Joshibiah enters as Jehu's father: "and Joel, and Jehu the son of Joshibiah, the son of Seraiah, the son of Asiel," (1Ch 4:35). The chain runs four deep — Jehu, Joshibiah, Seraiah, Asiel — but it is Jehu, not Joshibiah, who is named among the chiefs. Joshibiah is a link in the line.

The list closes with the summary "these mentioned by name were princes in their families: and their fathers' houses increased greatly" (1Ch 4:38).
