Litter

The litter is a portable carriage for carrying persons, named once in Isaiah's vision of the nations conveying Israel's scattered family back to Jerusalem.

In Isaiah's vision of the return

Among the means by which the nations bring Israel home as a tribute to Yahweh, the litter takes its place beside other modes of transport: "And they will bring all your⁺ brothers out of all the nations for an oblation to Yahweh, on horses, and in chariots, and in litters, and on mules, and on dromedaries, to my holy mountain Jerusalem, says Yahweh, as the sons of Israel bring their oblation in a clean vessel into the house of Yahweh" (Isa 66:20). The litter sits in a list of dignified conveyances — horses, chariots, mules, dromedaries — gathered together to deliver the gathered people to "my holy mountain Jerusalem."
