Lois
Lois is the grandmother of Timothy, named once in scripture and commended by Paul for the faith she handed down through her household.
Grandmother to Timothy
Writing to Timothy, Paul recalls the line of faith that runs back through two earlier generations: "having been reminded of the unfeigned faith that is in you; which dwelt first in your grandmother Lois, and your mother Eunice; and, I am persuaded, in you also" (2 Ti 1:5). The faith is described as "unfeigned" — genuine, undisguised — and is traced as having "dwelt first" in Lois before Eunice and then Timothy. She stands at the head of a three-generation chain in which the same trust has settled and continued.
