Lud
Lud appears in the table of nations as the fourth son of Shem, set among the eponymous ancestors from whom the Semitic peoples descend. The name occurs only twice in genealogy, both times in the same fixed sequence.
A Son of Shem
The Genesis table places Lud within the immediate family of Shem: "The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram" (Gen 10:22). The Chronicler repeats the line, extending it with Aram's sons: "The sons of Shem: Elam, and Asshur, and Arpachshad, and Lud, and Aram, and Uz, and Hul, and Gether, and Meshech" (1Ch 1:17). Both lists fix Lud's position between Arpachshad and Aram, locating him among the founding peoples of the Shemite stock.
Ludim, the plural form attached to Mizraim's descendants, is a separate line and does not belong here.
