Maadiah

Maadiah is named once in scripture, in the priestly roster of those who returned from exile with Zerubbabel and Jeshua.

A returning priest

The list of priests and Levites who came up at the head of the restoration is given in Nehemiah 12, and Maadiah's name falls in its middle stretch: "Mijamin, Maadiah, Bilgah" (Ne 12:5). The wider passage frames the group as "the priests and the Levites who went up with Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, and Jeshua" and identifies them as "the chiefs of the priests and of their brothers in the days of Jeshua" (Ne 12:1, 7). Maadiah appears only as a name in that catalogue; nothing further about him is said in the text.
