Maasai

People · Updated 2026-05-08

Maasai is a priest listed among the inhabitants of Jerusalem who resettled there after the Babylonian exile. First Chronicles 9:12 names him: "Maasai the son of Adiel, the son of Jahzerah, the son of Meshullam, the son of Meshillemith, the son of Immer." UPDV spells the name Maasai throughout, distinct from the separately attested name Maaseiah.

His lineage traces back through five generations to Immer, indicating descent from one of the major priestly divisions. He is mentioned in the same list as Adaiah son of Jeroham (1Ch 9:12), both among those who served in Jerusalem following the return from Babylon.
