Madon

Places · Updated 2026-05-06

Madon is a Canaanite city named in connection with Joshua's northern campaign — once in the muster of kings Jabin of Hazor calls together, once in the closing list of kings Joshua defeats.

A Canaanite City

When Jabin of Hazor moves to resist Israel's advance into the north, he sends to a coalition of neighboring kings: "And it came to pass, when Jabin king of Hazor heard of it, that he sent to Jobab king of Maron, and to the king of Shimeon, and to the king of Achshaph" (Jos 11:1). The city's king is named in the catalogue that closes Joshua's conquests: "the king of Madon, one; the king of Hazor, one;" (Jos 12:19).
