Maharai

Maharai the Netophathite is one of David's warriors, named in the rosters of mighty men and again in the rotation of monthly division-captains.

In David's Warrior Rosters

The list in 2 Samuel places him among the named heroes: "Zalmon the Ahohite, Maharai the Netophathite" (2Sa 23:28). The parallel roster in Chronicles repeats the entry: "Maharai the Netophathite, Heled the son of Baanah the Netophathite" (1Ch 11:30). The same gentilic — Netophathite — fixes him to the town of Netophah.

Tenth-Month Captain

A second listing assigns him a yearly turn of duty: "The tenth [captain] for the tenth month was Maharai the Netophathite, of the Zerahites: and in his course were twenty and four thousand" (1Ch 27:13). The notice adds his clan affiliation — of the Zerahites — and the size of the division under his command.
