Mahath
Two Levites of the Kohathite line bear the name Mahath — one in the genealogy that runs back through Samuel's ancestry, and one (or two) active in the Hezekian reforms.
In the Kohathite Genealogy
The line of Heman the singer, traced back through Kohath, names Mahath among the ascending generations: "the son of Zuph, the son of Elkanah, the son of Mahath, the son of Amasai" (1Ch 6:35).
In Hezekiah's Reform
When Hezekiah summons the Levites to cleanse the temple, the named heads include "Mahath, the son of Amasai... of the sons of the Kohathites" (2Ch 29:12). The same family pairing — Mahath son of Amasai — links this notice to the genealogical line.
Later in the reform, after the people bring in tithes for the priests and Levites, a Mahath appears among the storehouse overseers: "And Jehiel, and Azaziah, and Nahath, and Asahel, and Jerimoth, and Jozabad, and Eliel, and Ismachiah, and Mahath, and Benaiah, were overseers under the hand of Conaniah and Shimei his brother, by the appointment of Hezekiah the king, and Azariah the leader of the house of God" (2Ch 31:13).
