Makaz
Makaz is a town named once, in the list of Solomon's provisioning districts. It marks the territory assigned to one of the twelve officers responsible for supplying the royal household.
A Provisioning District under Ben-Deker
The administrative system of Solomon's reign divided Israel among twelve officers, each provisioning the king for one month of the year: "And Solomon had twelve officers over all Israel, who provided victuals for the king and his household: each man had to make provision for a month in the year" (1Ki 4:7). Makaz appears in the territorial sketch of one of those officers: "Ben-deker, in Makaz, and in Shaalbim, and Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan;" (1Ki 4:9). The town is grouped with Shaalbim, Beth-shemesh, and Elon-beth-hanan — the western lowland zone of Solomon's domain — and receives no further mention.
