Malchiel
Malchiel is a son of Beriah and a grandson of Asher, named in the genealogies of the tribe and identified as the head of the Malchielite clan.
In the Asherite Genealogy
The list of those who came down with Jacob into Egypt names him among Asher's grandsons: "And the sons of Asher: Imnah, and Ishvah, and Ishvi, and Beriah, and their sister Serah; and the sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel" (Gen 46:17). The wilderness census formalizes the family unit that bears his name: "Of the sons of Beriah: of Heber, the family of the Heberites; of Malchiel, the family of the Malchielites" (Num 26:45). Chronicles repeats the descent and adds a further generation: "And the sons of Beriah: Heber, and Malchiel, who was the father of Birzaith" (1Ch 7:31).
