Manahath
The name Manahath belongs both to a person — a son of Shobal in the Edomite genealogy of Esau — and to a place mentioned in a Benjamite resettlement notice.
A Son of Shobal
In the listing of Edomite clans descended from Seir the Horite, Manahath appears among the sons of Shobal: "And these are the sons of Shobal: Alvan and Manahath and Ebal, Shepho and Onam" (Gen 36:23). The Chronicler repeats the line with minor spelling variants for the brothers: "The sons of Shobal: Alian, and Manahath, and Ebal, Shephi, and Onam. And the sons of Zibeon: Aiah, and Anah" (1Ch 1:40).
A Place of Resettlement
The same name reappears as a location in a Benjamite genealogical notice that records a forced movement of population: "And these are the sons of Ehud: these are the heads of fathers' [houses] of the inhabitants of Geba, and they carried them captive to Manahath" (1Ch 8:6).
