Massa

Massa is one of the twelve sons of Ishmael, named in the two parallel genealogies that record Ishmael's line. Genesis introduces the list with its frame: "And these are the names of the sons of Ishmael, by their names, according to their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth, and Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, and Mishma, and Dumah, and Massa, Hadad, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah" (Gn 25:13-15). Massa appears as the seventh name.

Chronicles repeats the genealogy in a slightly different order: "These are their generations: the firstborn of Ishmael, Nebaioth; then Kedar, and Adbeel, and Mibsam, Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema, Jetur, Naphish, and Kedemah. These are the sons of Ishmael" (1 Ch 1:29-31). The single line carrying his name in this list reads: "Mishma, and Dumah, Massa, Hadad, and Tema" (1 Ch 1:30). Beyond the genealogies, no act, oracle, or descendant is recorded for him in scripture.
