Mattanah
Mattanah is a wilderness station on Israel's itinerary east of the Arnon, named once in the well-song traveler-list in Numbers 21 and nowhere else.
A Station East of the Arnon
The well-song breaks off into an itinerary couplet that places Mattanah between the wilderness and Nahaliel: "The well, which the princes dug, Which the nobles of the people delved, With the scepter, [and] with their poles. And from the wilderness [they journeyed] to Mattanah; and from Mattanah to Nahaliel; and from Nahaliel to Bamoth;" (Num 21:18-19).
The site stands as one link in the chain of stations the traveling people pass through on their approach to the territory east of the Jordan; the text gives the name and the sequence and nothing more.
