Mattathias

The name Mattathias surfaces in the Lukan genealogy of Jesus, where two men by that name stand in adjacent links of the chain of fathers running back from Joseph to Adam.

In the Genealogy of Jesus

Both occurrences fall in successive verses of the genealogy: "the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Amos, the [son] of Nahum, the [son] of Esli, the [son] of Naggai, the [son] of Maath, the [son] of Mattathias, the [son] of Semein, the [son] of Josech, the [son] of Joda," (Luke 3:25-26).

The genealogy gives only the names; nothing further is told of either Mattathias.
