Matthan

Matthan appears once in scripture, named within the Matthean genealogy of Jesus.

A Link in the Genealogy

In the descent from Abraham through David to the Christ, Matthan stands between Eleazar and Jacob, two generations before Joseph the husband of Mary:

"and Eliud begot Eleazar; and Eleazar begot Matthan; and Matthan begot Jacob;" (Mt 1:15).

The text records nothing else of him; his place is the link he forms in the line that brings the genealogy from David's house to the birth of Jesus.
