Merathaim

Merathaim is named once, as a target of judgment in the long oracle against Babylon in Jeremiah 50. It appears alongside Pekod, both standing as designations for territory under Babylonian rule.

A target in the oracle against Babylon

Yahweh's word through Jeremiah summons attackers against the land: "Go up against the land of Merathaim, even against it, and against the inhabitants of Pekod: slay and completely destroy after them, says Yahweh, and do according to all that I have commanded you" (Jer 50:21). The verse pairs the name with Pekod and places the assault under direct divine command, set within the broader announcement that Babylon will fall to a coalition of nations from the north.
