Meres
Meres is one of the seven princes of Persia and Media named in the opening scene of Esther, ranked among the king's closest advisors during the reign of Ahasuerus.
Prince of Persia and Media
He appears in the list of seven who attend the king when the question of Vashti's refusal is brought before them: "and the next to him were Carshena, Shethar, Admatha, Tarshish, Meres, Marsena, and Memucan, the seven princes of Persia and Media, who saw the king's face, and sat first in the kingdom)" (Esth 1:14). The text places these seven in the highest tier of access to the throne — those "who saw the king's face" — and identifies them collectively as the body whose counsel the king consults on the matter that follows. Meres is named only here; his role is defined entirely by membership in this council.
