Mishmannah
Mishmannah is one of eleven Gadite warriors who broke off to join David in the wilderness stronghold, listed fourth in the Chronicler's roll of mighty men.
A Gadite Captain Who Joined David
The Gadite list opens with a vivid description of the men who came over to David:
"And of the Gadites there separated themselves to David to the stronghold in the wilderness, mighty men of valor, men trained for war, who could handle shield and spear; whose faces were like the faces of lions, and they were as swift as the roes on the mountains" (1Ch 12:8).
Mishmannah's name comes in the numbered roll that follows:
"Mishmannah the fourth, Jeremiah the fifth" (1Ch 12:10).
The Chronicler's summary places Mishmannah among captains rated for hundreds and thousands:
"These of the sons of Gad were captains of the host: he who was least was equal to a hundred, and the greatest to a thousand" (1Ch 12:14).
And the closing note records the river crossing that brought the company to David:
"These are those who went over the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed all its banks; and they put to flight all them of the valleys, both toward the east, and toward the west" (1Ch 12:15).
