Mispereth
Mispereth is one of the men named at the head of the list of those who returned from Babylon with Zerubbabel. The same person appears in two parallel rosters under two slightly different forms — Mispar in Ezra, Mispereth in Nehemiah.
In the Ezra roster
The leaders who came up with Zerubbabel are named first, before the count of the people. "Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Seraiah, Reelaiah, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispar, Bigvai, Rehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:" (Ezr 2:2). The Ezra list spells the name Mispar.
In the Nehemiah roster
Nehemiah preserves the same list, with a few names spelled differently and one or two added. "Who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah. The number of the men of the people of Israel:" (Ne 7:7). Here the same man stands as Mispereth, in the same position between Bilshan and Bigvai. Beyond the inclusion in the return-list itself, the records say nothing further about him.
