Mushi
Mushi is one of the two sons of Merari, the third son of Levi, and his descendants form one of the named Levitical clans tracked through the priestly genealogies.
A son of Merari
The earliest mention places Mushi alongside his brother Mahli within the founding rosters of the tribe of Levi: "And the sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites according to their generations" (Ex 6:19). The Chronicler repeats this pairing when reorganizing Levitical lineage by ancestral house: "The sons of Merari: Mahli and Mushi. And these are the families of the Levites according to their fathers' [houses]" (1Ch 6:19).
Forebear in the Levitical line
Mushi reappears as a link in the longer genealogical chain that traces a singer's ancestry back through the patriarchs of the tribe: "the son of Mahli, the son of Mushi, the son of Merari, the son of Levi" (1Ch 6:47). The verse shows Mushi positioned between Merari and the later Mahli of the line, situating him as a fixed ancestral name in the Levitical record rather than a figure of independent narrative.
