A Chief Returned Exile
The roster of those who came back at the head of the first wave names him in the company of Israel's principal returnees: "who came with Zerubbabel, Jeshua, Nehemiah, Azariah, Raamiah, Nahamani, Mordecai, Bilshan, Mispereth, Bigvai, Nehum, Baanah" (Ne 7:7). The list precedes the registry of "the men of the people of Israel," placing Nehum among the leadership that headed the resettled community.
