Nekoda

People · Updated 2026-05-06

The name Nekoda belongs to two ancestral heads in the post-exilic registers: one among the Nethinim, the temple servants returned from Babylon, and one among those whose Israelite descent could not be proven from the records.

Nekoda Among the Nethinim

In the catalog of returning Nethinim, Nekoda appears as head of a family in both parallel lists: "the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda, the sons of Gazzam" (Ezra 2:48); "the sons of Reaiah, the sons of Rezin, the sons of Nekoda" (Neh 7:50). The household is listed without further detail beyond the bare entry in the temple-servant rolls.

Nekoda Among Those Without Proven Descent

A second Nekoda heads a family among the returnees who could not establish their lineage. The two parallel lists differ only in the count: "the sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred fifty and two" (Ezra 2:60); "The sons of Delaiah, the sons of Tobiah, the sons of Nekoda, six hundred forty and two" (Neh 7:62).
