Netophah

Netophah is a town of Judah whose men appear in the post-exilic return-lists. The two parallel rosters of those who came back with Zerubbabel each give it a single line.

In the Return Lists

Ezra's tally counts the Netophahites on their own: "The men of Netophah, fifty and six" (Ezr 2:22). Nehemiah's parallel list groups the town with neighboring Bethlehem and gives a combined figure: "The men of Bethlehem and Netophah, 188" (Ne 7:26). The two notices, taken together, place Netophah near Bethlehem and number its returning men in the dozens.
