Nicopolis

Places · Updated 2026-05-07

Nicopolis is a city named once in scripture, identified as the place where Paul intended to spend a winter and where he asked Titus to join him.

Paul's wintering plans

The single appearance of the name occurs in Paul's closing instructions to Titus, when he calls his coworker to leave Crete and travel to meet him: "When I will send Artemas to you, or Tychicus, be diligent to come to me to Nicopolis: for there I have determined to winter" (Tit 3:12). The city is presented as a fixed destination — already chosen, with the season of stay already decided — and as the meeting point that will free Titus from his post once a relief worker arrives.
