Omar
Omar is named only in the genealogies of Esau, as one of the sons of Eliphaz and one of the Edomite chiefs. He never acts; he appears in three roll-calls, each placing him second in the list of his brothers.
Son of Eliphaz
The Genesis genealogy of Esau lists him among the sons of Eliphaz: "And the sons of Eliphaz were Teman, Omar, Zepho, and Gatam, and Kenaz" (Gen 36:11). The Chronicler's parallel roll repeats the same five and adds two more names: "The sons of Eliphaz: Teman, and Omar, Zephi, and Gatam, Kenaz, and Timna, and Amalek" (1 Chr 1:36).
Chief of Edom
When the same names are repeated as a list of Edomite chiefs, Omar receives the title alongside his brothers: "These are the chiefs of the sons of Esau: the sons of Eliphaz the firstborn of Esau: chief Teman, chief Omar, chief Zepho, chief Kenaz" (Gen 36:15). The chief-formula assigns him a clan-leader's place inside Esau's line.
