Padon

People · Updated 2026-05-06

Padon is the head of a family of the Nethinim, the temple servants whose returning descendants are listed in the post-exilic registers of Ezra and Nehemiah. The name appears only in those two parallel rosters.

In Ezra's Register

The Ezra list of returning Nethinim places Padon's family in a sequence of three: "the sons of Keros, the sons of Siaha, the sons of Padon," (Ezr 2:44). The verse simply enumerates households by their ancestral head; Padon stands as the third in the immediate triad.

In Nehemiah's Parallel

Nehemiah's parallel register repeats the same group with one minor variant in the neighboring name: "the sons of Keros, the sons of Sia, the sons of Padon," (Ne 7:47). The bracketing households — Keros and Sia (= Siaha in Ezra) — confirm this as the same slot in the same list, with Padon's family preserved across both records.
