Pelaliah

People · Updated 2026-05-07

Pelaliah appears once in the text, named within a priestly genealogy in post-exilic Jerusalem.

A Priest in Nehemiah's Register

In the register of those who lived in Jerusalem after the return, Pelaliah is named as a forebear of Adaiah, one of the priests doing the work of the house: "and their brothers who did the work of the house, eight hundred twenty and two; and Adaiah the son of Jeroham, the son of Pelaliah, the son of Amzi, the son of Zechariah, the son of Pashhur, the son of Malchijah," (Neh 11:12). The placement of the line within the priestly section locates Pelaliah among the priestly families serving the temple in Nehemiah's day.
