Pelonite
"Pelonite" is a gentilic — the designation attached to two men in David's military rosters. Both appear in 1 Chronicles, both among the mighty men, and one of them as a monthly division commander.
Helez the Pelonite
Helez is named in the catalog of David's heroes: "Shammoth the Harorite, Helez the Pelonite," (1Ch 11:27). The same Helez reappears in the schedule of monthly army divisions, where his ancestry is given as Ephraimite: "The seventh [captain] for the seventh month was Helez the Pelonite, of the sons of Ephraim: and in his course were twenty and four thousand" (1Ch 27:10). The two notices line up — one entry placing him among the mighty men, the other showing him in command of the seventh-month course of twenty-four thousand troops.
Ahijah the Pelonite
A second Pelonite is listed a few verses later in the same hero-roster: "Hepher the Mecherathite, Ahijah the Pelonite," (1Ch 11:36). The text gives no further detail about him beyond the name and the gentilic — a brother-in-arms of Helez in David's company.
